Former WBA middleweight champion Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs will face the IBF mandatory title contender Sergiy “The Technician” Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF Middleweight World Title on Oct. 27 in the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. The 12-round scheduled bout will air on HBO World Championship Boxing starting at 10 pm ET/PT.

Jacobs, (34-2, 29 KOs) tarnished the unbeaten records of his last two opponents, Luis Arias and Polish middleweight contender Maciej “Striczu” Sulecki who tasted the canvas for the first time in his career on the last round by a tremendous right hook from Jacobs. Yearning to be a world champion again since losing his WBA world title to the unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in 2017, fans can expect a spectacular performance from “The Miracle Man.” To this day, a significant percentage of fight fans argue Jacobs was robbed of his title against Golovkin, who had a superb comeback after being knocked down in the fourth round. Besides giving Golovkin the toughest challenge of his career, Jacobs ruined Golovkin’s 23 consecutive knockout streak.

As the IBF mandatory title contender, Derevyanchenko (12-0, 10 KOs) has patiently waited for his opportunity for a world title fight as Golovkin evaded him as a possible replacement opponent for his May 5 title defense which was initially a scheduled rematch with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez who pulled out due to two positive clenbuterol tests. Failing to make a title defense within the desired time frame and choosing to face Vanes Martirosyan instead, Golovkin was stripped of his belt by the IBF this past June.

The Ukranian middleweight has proved to be a dangerous contender since his amateur career and participation in the 2008 Beijing Olympics; with an amateur record of 390-20 and an undefeated record since turning professional in 2014, Derevyachenko has defeated his opponents with devastating power and outstanding tactical skills. Though he has an 83% knockout percentage, Derevyanchenko proved the ability to be dangerous in the championship rounds by stopping Tureano Johnson in the final round of his final IBF title eliminator match-up.

A significant step-up in competition for Derevyanchenko since fighting Dashon “Fly Boy” Johnson in March, Jacobs will use his experience to try and give Derevyanchenko his first pro-career loss and have his hand raised at the end of the night to be crowned champion once again. Whoever shall rise victorious in this exciting match-up is likely to face the winner of Canelo-Golovkin 2 for an undisputed middleweight super fight in 2019.
